The conference ‘Different but equal. Homosexulaity in Poland and in the Europen Union'
On the 10 th of June 2005 an international conference titled ‘Different but equal. Homosexulaity in Poland and in the Europen Union' will be held in warsaw.
The conference is organised as part of the ‘Days of Equality', which take place in warsaw between the 10 th and 12 th of June 2005.
The aim of the conference is to present the situation of homosexuals in different sphers of social, professional and political life in Poland and other member states of the Europen Union, as well as to analize it and think of possible future activities in the field.
Six discussion are planned dealing with the following topics:
- The co-operation of the police with the LGBT comunnity
- The co-operation ot the political parties with the LGBT comunnity
- Polish and UE legislation conserning homosexuality
- The prevention of violence towards homosexuals
- Culture as means of teaching respect for diversity
- Lesbians in social and political life
The co-operation of the police with the LGBT comunnity Participants of the discussion:

The discussion will concentrate on the co-operation between the police and the LGBT comunnity, the programs conducted in co-operation with LGBT organisations and the plans for the future.

The discussion which focus on the co-operation between political parties and the LGBT community, their activites in the field of equality of rights and their plans for the future.
Polish and UE legislation conserning homosexuality Participants of the discussion:
dr Kees Waaldijk, a lawyer from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands, a specialist in the field of the low conserning sexual orientation.
Patrycja Pogodzińska, a lawyer from the Jagiellonian University Krakow
Gunter Dworek, representative of the LSVD
the chairman- Krzysztof Śmieszek, a lawyer from the office of Governmental Plenipotentiary of Equal Status of Men and Women
The discussion will concentrate on the Europen Union legislation concerning the protection of the rights of LGBT people, as well as on the solutions of the particular member state in the field and on the perspectives for the future development of these rights.
The prevention of violence towards homosexual people

The discussion will be centred on the Europen Union programs conserning the prevention of the violence towards homosexuals, the anti-violence projects lead by LGBT organisations as well as on the co-operation with other organisations and institutions and the plans for the future.

The discussion will be devoted to the problem how culture can influence our respect for diversity, and in particular our respect for people with different sexual orientations.
